Check Word document status on Mac after update
How to find out if a Word document needs updating on the Mac - this happened after the recent Mac update.
MacBook Air 13″, macOS 26.1
To check if a Word document needs updating on your Mac:
- Look for a banner at the top (“Update Document” or “Compatibility Mode”).
- Go to File → Info and check whether it says Compatibility Mode.
- Check the file extension (.doc → needs updating).
- Look for missing font or layout warnings.
If it does need updating, save a new copy as .docx or use Convert.
