Check Word document status on Mac after update

How to find out if a Word document needs updating on the Mac - this happened after the recent Mac update.

To check if a Word document needs updating on your Mac:

  1. Look for a banner at the top (“Update Document” or “Compatibility Mode”).
  2. Go to File → Info and check whether it says Compatibility Mode.
  3. Check the file extension (.doc → needs updating).
  4. Look for missing font or layout warnings.

If it does need updating, save a new copy as .docx or use Convert.
