How to know if you have a WiFi connection
Can’t seem to back up my Apple 8 phone. I need to have a WiFi connection to back up, but I don’t know if I have one.

If you have a Wi-Fi connection you will see a “fan” icon:
in the status bar. You can also go to Settings/Wi-Fi and if there is a Wi-Fi connection the name of the Wi-Fi network will appear near the top of the screen.

When you go to Settings/Wi-Fi you should see something like this:
The name of a Wi-Fi network (BuckMulligan-5G in the screen shot, but your network name on your phone) with a check mark next to it. Do you see it? If it’s there, is there a message under it such as “no internet” or “not private”?
[Extra credit if you can cite where my network name comes from 😈)]
Tap the Settings icon on your Home screen:
You should see the image below, then tap Wi-Fi on that screen:
Thanks so much. I do have the fan icon, but when I went to Settings, there was no WiFi choice. When I try to back up, the progress bar gets stuck at the very beginning, estimating the time that the backup will take, and it just remains there forever with no progress. I am using an IPhone 8. Do you know what’s going on?
