I have limited space so wondered if it's possible to sit my M1 Mac mini on top of a soundbox.

It seems fine. The product page has pictures of other things stacked on top of it, and there don't appear to be any outtakes that could mess with the Mac mini's cooling.

What soundbox?

You want to avoid placing the Mac mini on or near anything that generates heat.
(the air intake is a small gap around the edge of the bottom cover and the exhaust is on the back)
As mentioned standing the Mac mini on it's side or mounting it somewhere to save space is OK.
It should be. You can even run it sideways (there are stands available for that). Just be sure you don't stack anything on top of the Mac mini.

You're welcome- glad I could help. Just make sure it's in as cool of a location as possible. You may want to look in to getting a side stand.
If the top of the QM2 is warm to the touch, then I would look for a different location for the Mac mini.
