Apple Gift Card for Subscription

Google got me here, but I’m trying to 1. Pay for an in-app purchase and 2. Renew a subscription for another app. When I go to pay, it only allows me to double click the side button without picking a payment option. I can’t set my AppleID balance as the primary payment, and I don’t want to charge my credit card. I bought the Apple gift card for this purpose.

When redeeming a gift card, the amount will be credited to your (1) Apple Account balance and (2) you need to set your Apple Account balance as your default payment.

If you already use your Apple Account balance, the Apple Gift Card or App Store & iTunes gift card is automatically added to your Apple Account balance.

If you update your payment method or add funds to your Apple Account balance, It would take about 1 to 3 business days in order to process.

If you're still unable to update your payment method, Contact Apple Support.

Just tested it and it withdrew $.99 from my Apple Account, so that answered my question. The iPhone should show you where the money is coming from, however. Now I may run into the problem of it using my account balance to pay for food with Apple Pay instead of my credit card.

It doesn't allow you to set the Apple Account balance as the default payment.
