Impossible multiplication result in Numbers

Hello,

When working in a normal spreadsheet in .Numbers I used to multiply one cell and a second cell by

= cell x cell. When I do that now I receive a message that the result is impossible because of the first cell is in a chain ???

Any idea ??

Aart.

Circular references can never be resolved, hence the error message.

Consider:

Cell A2: =B2

Cell B2: =A2*2

B2 is invalid since it depends on A2, but A2 depends on B2 - as soon as B2 changes, A2 changes, which triggers a change on B2, which changes A2... ad infinitum.

the only way it can work on your wife's computer is if the formula is different.

The wording of your question is unusual so I am assuming it is a translation. It sounds like you have a circular reference. It is where a formula depends on its own result. Here a very simple example with two cells:

Formula in cell B1 is =B2

Formula in cell B2 is =B1

This is unsolvable. You probably have something more complicated than this but that is the general idea.

Unsolvable does not really help.

What I meant was a circular reference cannot be calculated by Numbers. The spreadsheet can be fixed; you need to find the circular reference(s) and correct the formula(s). As Camelot said, if it works on your wife's computer then the formula there is different (and is not circular).
