iCloud for Windows causes Volume Shadow Copy problems
I am running the latest iCloud for Windows on my Windows 10 system. I am using Acronis True Image 2025 as my backup solution. Periodically, one of my backup jobs will fail with the error: Failed to backup file or folder '\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopyxx\Users\<myuser>\Pictures\iCloud Photos\Photos\<random file>.jpg. I must manually intervene to continue the backup.
The published solution is to shutdown iCloud for Windows which, of course, deletes folder \Photos\ and all files in the folder. This is not a viable solution to need to do this prior to backing up my system. Is there anything short of deleting and re-downloading all my iCloud Photos that I can do to avoid this?
I'm also searching for a Windows based solution or a solution from Acronis, but so far I've not found it. Any backup solution will encounter this error. And the fact that Apple does not provide a method to change the location of the iCloud Photos folder exacerbates the issue.
