Why are my AirPods Pro replacement ear tips too small?

I just bought official replacement airpod pro2 ear tips but they seem to be too small to fit over the central ear microphone piece (by about half a millimeter). I noticed also the new tips have a harder plastic ring. Is this a known issue? Does anyone have any suggestions?
