How can I use custom format to show N/A in empty cells in Numbers?

i need to show n/a in some empty cells, but i can't see how to do that in a custom data format. there are no rules that allow for this that i can see. i have a rule set up to show a suffix when a number is entered in that cell, and added a rule to show n/a when the cell is =0, but not how to add text when it's empty. however, this rule works in a cell that has a formula in it.

Interesting - there doesn't appear to be a way to set a custom format for an empty cell. I tried a couple of ways and couldn't get it to work.

However, based on your post, your cell is not empty"

Can you not edit the formula to return "N/A" instead of a blank result? Wouldn't that take care of the issue?

What is the formula in that cell?
