There are several possible causes of a situation like this, and, as Apple users, like yourself, with no access to your accounts or details, we have little information to go on. Below are some of the possibilities /guesses to help get us started toward a solution. You'll know which ones to eliminate, other(s) may help.
✽ MacOS 26.0.1 provided bug fixes, and security updates, so may be worth updating to, if you haven't already. (NB: A friendly reminder: It is always wise to back-up Mac before updating ) If already up-to-date: Try restarting your Mac: Apple menu > Restart.
✽ You may want to check you are signed into your Mac with the same Apple Account details you use for the App Store and other Apple services: More info. on signing in: Sign in to your Apple Account on the web or in your device settings - Apple Support
✽ Wondering if you have a valid payment method listed in your Apple Account, as seems this is a necessary requirement for the first time we download an app, even a free app.
✽ You can check which payment methods Apple can accept in your country or region: Payment methods that you can use with your Apple Account - Apple Support
and
✽ If needed: How to Add an Apple Account Payment method: https://support.apple.com/118429)
✽ Perhaps you may have an amount owing, ie: a previous purchase that remains unpaid. More info. if you do have an unpaid balance:
✽ As you are unable to make an App Store purchase, Apple Support's articles below may help troubleshoot.
