Still can’t block messages even after adding to contact

Try Settings>Messages>Filter Unknown Senders, turn that on. Yes, they are getting smarter and are spoofing numbers, or sending from computers. You can report that to your cellular carrier and see what blocking services they have.

Talk to your legislative representatives, too. What you’re seeing here is the inevitable and seemingly also profitable result of the current laws, and current policies toward communications and enforcement, at least here in the US.
