iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

SO after getting two brand new iphone 12 pro max, after ordering Like 9 models , i can confirm all fot this weird LCD like screen in pitch black room on a blakc wallappaer in full screen in photos apps ( to reproduce the issue easily ) or even by jut booting each phones out of the box in my bathroom with no lights on , ( you see this grey flicker...

I got 2 12 pro max today starting with F2 week 51 of production, like most of the ones i got , it's way better than the last one i got starting with G0... the issue is still present but barely visible specialy on one model + no yellow tint...

So i send pics to apple, and they confirmed to me THAT THEY DO NOT READ THESE FORUMS... AT ALL...

if u cant this minor issue ( in their opinion and i agree ) to be fixed , you need to call them and spend 30 min or 1 hour max with tech support and explain them all of this.. issue is software cos it never happen with brigthness at 100% and when the phone boot at first, the screen is perfect , you see the apple logo and then the grey flicker comes for a few seconds, it means that so cores components that initialize when booting up like all the sensor in the notch must be causing a little software bug that most ppl do not see.

they do have enough reports of this specific issue.. if all the people here were to call them maybe they'll will really look into the issue.. i've send pictures to them, spent some time with them, and it's the only solution for a fix to be coming ASAP.

hope most of you will calll them . otherwise they may fix it when 13 is released..

Same problem with mine (iPhone 12 blue, 128 GB). I noticed this glitch instantly and it’s definitely not minor.

When booting up the phone that weird green/grey glow is really annoying. Are we really sure they are working on a software fix? How long is it going to take? Quite frankly I refuse to keep it as it is, it sounds like the screen is faulty and there won’t be any fix. Call me impatient or whatever but I’m seriously considering returning it or asking for a replacement.

What’s holding be back from doing it is that they run out of stock and I don’t wanna wait for too long. I called Apple Support and they said we aren’t even allowed to ask for a replacement for the time being as they are working hard on a software fix. I don’t trust them, you guys are saying the problem is still there even after installing the beta versions of 14.2 and 14.3.

Are they gonna roll out a minor software update meanwhile? Who knows.

My guess is because, while the people here and on other forums like Mac rumors are loudly speaking out, the vast majority of people don't actually notice it. The minute apple says something official, it would get the attention of everyone.

Also I'm fairly certain that all iphone 12s do this. The people who say they don't have it probably just aren't testing properly or are not understanding what they are trying to test. For example I still see large amounts of responses every time this is brought up trying to explain how the flickering is PWM, meaning they clearly didn't read or take the time to understand the complaints.

The only thing holds me to say it’s a hardware issue , is that when I reinstalled the iOS it sat on the Apple logo screen for about 10 min and never flicker once. The moment the iOS was done and phone rebooted I could see the green flickering screen prior booting into the iOS. Who knows how apple designed this phone? They tend to do things like battery gate issue, to prolong the hardware ....

It’s legit and accurate as a description but my point is: why should I wait for that long if I can have a replacement unit straight away?

We have no official evidence it’s a software-related issue, although it’s very likely. Imagine if Apple gave up after the nth unsuccessful attempt and decided to start a replacement program in two months: we’d only waste a lot of time.

hello, I realized that an error had slipped in my explanation;

about the dark gray photo image, i wanted to point out that it displays in perfect black (oled pixel off) on all other screens of iphone models released before iphone 12

For the test I sent the same image by airdrop of course 😉

I tested the image posted in my first post on an iphone 11 pro max and it does not appear in perfect black, the image will be just useful to see if there are lighter lines or spots on your screen (visible in absolute darkness with minimal brightness)

I got my replacement unit today. The issue is still there but it’s definitely a better screen then my previous one, like night and day difference to the point that I think I didn’t waste time like I thought I would: the grin tint is gone and the display still flashes in pitch black when displaying black content (no stills, just videos) but it’s barely visible now and not that annoying. I don’t know what’s going on with Apple this year. Only time will tell!

I doubt it’s a software error. You can’t just “miss” this thing during production stages. Nor it’s a feature for black smearing cover. It’s a bad OLED quality displays. I don’t understand how others watch videos on youtube with this issue? It’s really annoying flickering every second, you can see it even in barely dark room. Also I don’t understand why some smart people still not sued Apple for this.

So here’s how it’s going for my 12 Pro Max.It definitely has this issue but it’s so subtle to the point I can’t even see it in the dark.I have to put my eyes against the screen to see these pixels go light grey.I found out at :

100% Brightness with low power mode there is that glow

100% Brightness without low power mode no glow what so ever (Pure black as it should be)

50%Brightness with low power mode it makes my display flicker almost every second or so

50% Brightness without low power mode the display does flicker but not very noticeable

Now these results can support the fact that this is a software issue as the display only flickers with low power mode or at lower brightness levels

Edit:Just checked my brother’s 12 Pro Max and same results !
