iPhone 12 OLED Screen Issue

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

That’s not normal at all. I post it to support and they said I should wait more. That’s just great...

SO after getting two brand new iphone 12 pro max, after ordering Like 9 models , i can confirm all fot this weird LCD like screen in pitch black room on a blakc wallappaer in full screen in photos apps ( to reproduce the issue easily ) or even by jut booting each phones out of the box in my bathroom with no lights on , ( you see this grey flicker...

I got 2 12 pro max today starting with F2 week 51 of production, like most of the ones i got , it's way better than the last one i got starting with G0... the issue is still present but barely visible specialy on one model + no yellow tint...

So i send pics to apple, and they confirmed to me THAT THEY DO NOT READ THESE FORUMS... AT ALL...

if u cant this minor issue ( in their opinion and i agree ) to be fixed , you need to call them and spend 30 min or 1 hour max with tech support and explain them all of this.. issue is software cos it never happen with brigthness at 100% and when the phone boot at first, the screen is perfect , you see the apple logo and then the grey flicker comes for a few seconds, it means that so cores components that initialize when booting up like all the sensor in the notch must be causing a little software bug that most ppl do not see.

they do have enough reports of this specific issue.. if all the people here were to call them maybe they'll will really look into the issue.. i've send pictures to them, spent some time with them, and it's the only solution for a fix to be coming ASAP.

hope most of you will calll them . otherwise they may fix it when 13 is released..

Yeah, I’ve the same problem (iPhone 12 pro) and the same approach to it. Let’s take it “easy” and wait for some instructions from Apple; it’s weird and unusual to deal with these kind of problems on a €1000+ Device, but returning now for a change has no sense because we still don’t know if it is software or hardware related. Let’s keep updated.

We have 2 new iPhone 12 regular. One has white cloudy sploches and red and green spots that appear and then quickly dosapaer. Other 12 does not. Have open apple case. Below is examples. Top has the issue and bottom seem fine. Both are set the same. The red circle also shows up on Messenger, the cloudy is present on lock screen all the time. Theory is it might be wallpaper background, but that would not explain Messenger screen and we have no wallpaper with color. Does not effect operation. While the red disappears and is random, the white cloudy is consistant, but... Is in an L shape most the time vs covering the entire lock keypad. We a,so notice very different Color for the number circles and the black background. 3rd photo show the lock screen with the white cloud in L pattern constant.

Confirmed by Apple team over the phone or via chat? Unfortunately their support tends to say things with regards to issues that aren’t true in order to confirm your satisfaction with the interaction. Shipping dates are arbitrary and can jump up or back with no rhyme or reason. Check the serial number once you get confirmation to determine production date and factory. Best of luck on receiving a new good unit. I am on my third 12 pro unit and will try again in a few weeks.

Sorry to say that.

They convince me at the first week after I got my phone and told me that the phone can be repair later at Apple store (after the lockdown and reopen Genius Bar) Then now it was past almost 1 month they rejected and refuse with no other reason keep telling me the screen is alright based on the analytic tool.

Come on, Apple 🍎. You are not with only 100 workers or developers. It tooks a month to discover the issue even we provide the remark ask you to test (at Genius Bar) and they replied sorry we don’t do that we just see on the data on our analytic tool. Even photograph image is provided and they told me sorry we can’t accept this becuase you might download this from somewhere 😂😂😂

alright then :) I have to use statement and law action to treat this issue. “Producer have to be ensure the product’s quality which are sold to public are identical, equal and standard to every buyer” otherwise it declaimed as defection product if one or small group of them are not identical to major. As Apple did not claimed any problem with other iPhone, I assumed only small or certain amount of iPhone12 with this issue which means defected.

If Apple make a brief announcement like Okay guys this issue is begin to be investigate and affected model : XXXX will get inform for further action.

Then I totally good with that at least they take the responsibility ! This is business ethic man ! I believe I don’t have to explain right what is business ethic 😅

Hi,

thank you for your detailed info. May I know from where do you get this information? I know that BOE, LG and Samsung were the manufacturers and BOE is the new one. BOE also had some problems with production of the displays mad probably that is why there is a problem here.

The info I am concerned about is how do you know about the new production without faulty displays. I will wait until January to return my iPhone mini and then get a ew one to ensure that I have the latest production model. Hopefully it is fixed by then.

So apparently there are three problems with the iPhone 12 series screens.

  1. green tint issue
  2. hdr glow issue (where it lights up like an LCD, also called as iPhone screen glowing issue)
  3. yellow screen issue

I had green tint issue on my first phone. Replaced it, i had again the first two issues green tint and glow on the second one, and now on the third one, i have just the hdr issue. Apparently 14.4 beta fixes the hdr glow issue. I am installing it at the moment. i will check back here to report if there are these issues still.

I ordered my iPhone 12 Pro on Apple website on November 15th and I received it on the 25th. I noticed green tint issue in the Settings with very low brightness in a dark room.

It’s weird because for example I don’t see the green tint around the apple when the iPhone is powering on.

I tried the YouTube HDR black video and yes I noticed some flickering with very low brightness, but with a black png image on the screen I don’t see it.

I really don’t understand if it’s a software or hardware issue, if it’s hardware related it should be always there, shouldn’t it?

I also noticed that when you play a video that you have recorded with HDR it automatically adjust the brightness of the screen but I think that’s normal in order to see it in a true HDR condition, if you stop playing the video it turns back to normal brightness, it’s like when you open the wallet to scan some plane tickets or fidelity card. I don’t think it’s an issue.

My final thoughts: it really doesn’t affect my everyday usage but I agree with everyone when they say it’s a +1000 euros phone and it shouldn’t have these problems. I hope they will find a software fix or in the worse scenario Apple will replace damaged units.

I also contacted the Apple customer care on the phone and the Genius girl told me that Apple is aware of the problem and that the engineers are working to fix that with via software update, I assume that the update we are waiting for is not 14.3. They also told me that I have time until January to return my phone and ask for a completely refund and buy a new one, but still I don’t wanna do that because we don’t know what it’s actually wrong. I wanted to go to an Apple store for assistance but in Italy every Apple store activity is restricted due to covid restrictions and they just let you pickup a new phone if ordered online.

I have a device from Shanghai with a Samsung screen( a G9N screen variant, believed to be the best quality followed by the G9P, GVC, and the GH). The behavior is the glow of the pixels at low brightness(but not as bad as some others), a green tint at the boot up( it was fixed a little with 14.3 but still there), and flickering.

My device is a 12 Pro Max, week 41.

Dec 17, 2020 10:25 AM in response to m4x1k

Hahahahhahah.

That’s the Apple storyline 😅😅😅 I suppose.

Well everyone deserved to get a same quality of device with same function and same behaviors. Imaging after a year (when the Apple warranty is ended) the screen lead to another issue which you have to replace it.

And that time Apple will kick your *** to pay 💰 for fixing or 😃 maybe convince you to trade-in and get a new iPhone 13. Hahhaha

well even if the replied from Apple engineer to ask me wait for upcoming update I will request for a proper email statement to mentioned at this time Apple ask me to wait if this related issue lead to any issue in future the party will fully take the responsibility 😊. Is fair that We paying this much money and deserved that right 😀

I can say that in iOS 14.4 beta 1 the flickering (actually no flickering, just the pixels appear and then go off in less than a second, it doesn’t keep turning off and on like before)is still there but it’s much less which makes me feel optimistic and looks like it has something to do with the sensors not reading everything well. Something to do with the hdr capable screens of the iPhone 12 series perhaps. In any case I will be checking in here often and reporting.
