Not so much a question as a complaint, as many people have had the same problem and Apple’s only answer is: “Your still in private mode,” (which you aren’t). In other words: “We, at Apple, are committed to pretending this problem does not exist and have no plans to fix it.”
The new system is a little tricky. You have private tabs, and you havenormal tabs. The two sets of tabs run in parallel
If all you have is a private tab, hold the overlapping boxes then select Start Page
After that you can swap between the private and the public page sets
