No Sound for Text Msg Alerts In CarPlay

When I connect to CarPlay via USB & Lightning Cord, I do not get any sound for text messages. (my car doesn’t support CarPlay connections via Bluetooth)

I get vibrations & a temporary banner - on my iPhone and in the car - But no sound!

It’s driving me bananas!!!

PLEASE NOTE I DO RECEIVE TEXT ALERTS:

#1 Using Siri’s “Announce Messages”

(I get a genetic tone, before my text is read out loud.) However, I am unable to allow Siri to read every text, all the time.

#2 When connecting iPhone via bluetooth.

To the best of my recollection:

You'll find below, a list of things I’ve looked over and verified what the issue Isn’t!

• DND switch (on the side of iPhone) is Off

• None of My Focus DNDs are On

• Verified Sound & Notification Settings

—> Both on iPhone and in the car

• Verified CarPlay Settings

—> Both on iPhone and in the car

(I’ve done a bunch of Google Research on this - But I’m sleepy this AM and may be leaving a few things off !)

Hi CareyBlueberry,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! You have done great steps so far. You mentioned checking the Focus / Do Not Disturb settings on the iPhone itself, did you also check on the CarPlay Dashboard? If not, we recommend the following steps:

  1. Open Settings in CarPlay using your vehicle’s built-in controls.
  2. Note: If you’re viewing CarPlay Dashboard and Settings doesn’t appear in the recent apps list on the left, tap  to see pages of all of your CarPlay apps, including Settings.
  3. Go to Driving Focus, then select Activate With CarPlay.

Change settings in CarPlay

Hope this helps!

Have a great day.
