captive.apple.com only shows success instead of the Wifi login page.

This basically happened to me on all public wifi that requires user login. Usually, once I'm connected with the wifi, a pop-up login page will show up, if not, I can call the page up by visiting captive.apple.com. Somehow this isn't working anymore. Now when I visit captive.apple.com, it just shows "Success" and does nothing. I have to manually type in the web address for the wifi that I am wishing to connect which is annoying because for public wifi (hotel wifi for example) I have no idea how to get directed to their login page. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Normally, that "Success" page (with nothing else) indicates you are already logged into the hotel's Wi-Fi network, and Safari should just work as it should.

If that is not happening, the solution is to "forget" that hotel's Wi-Fi network, and then connect to it again. To do that, open Network Preferences, select Wi-Fi, then click the Advanced... button.

Scroll to find the hotel's Wi-Fi network, select it, and then click the [—] (minus) button to remove it from your preferred network list. Confirm the dialog that appears next, then click OK and then Apply.

Then, using the Mac's Wi-Fi menu icon, connect to that network again. That should cause the authentication window to reappear.

Hi daydreamingemy,

Thanks for posting here in Apple Support Communities. The first thing we'll want to have you try is restarting your MacBook as this may help to address the issue you're facing. If the issue persists, then try starting up. your Mac in safe mode. See: Start up your Mac in safe mode

Start up your Mac with Apple silicon in safe mode
1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Shut Down.
2. Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. A Mac is completely shut down when the screen is black and any lights (including in the Touch Bar) are off.
3. Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.
4. Select a volume.
5. Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.
6. The computer restarts automatically. When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.

Start up your Intel-based Mac in safe mode
1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key until you see the login window.
2. Log in to your Mac.
3. You might be asked to log in again.
4. On either the first or second login window, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.

Please keep in mind that starting in safe mode will take a little longer than normal, because it verifies and repairs the directory, cleans caches, and loads only Apple-critical items.

Keep us posted.

Thanks.
