Are these new drives or used drives? If used, how are they currently being used & managed?

Which Format Type to Use:

Either format the Hard Drive to APFS (for Sierra or later) or macOS Extended (pre-Sierra). Make sure this drive of Mac compatible. It would say so on the original packaging.
