Can’t log in Icloud on atv 3

I use an appleTV 3 to stream my music from itunes match. Worked perfectly, atv directly connected to stereo. Apple says minimum system requirement for iTunes match is atv3. However, I can’t login to my icloud account (and hence not in iTunes match) anymore. Says something about photostream, which i do not use. Did apple stop allowing iCloud on atv3?

newer atv’s have no sound output, so is this the end of my perfectly working setup?

Hello cornelus,

To start you'll want to add more specific detail to your post. For instance, including the actual error message you're getting when you try signing in to your Apple ID would help to give the community a better understanding of what you're seeing.

In the meantime, here's some general steps you can review for sign in issues: If you can't connect or sign in to iCloud

Something that may cause a sign in issue on an old device like that could be if you have the two-factor authentication security enabled on your Apple ID account (where you have to enter a 6 digit verification code to complete sign in). If you have the two-factor authentication enabled, that device may not have the specific area to enter the verification code due to its age. If that's the case you would enter the verification code after the password to make the sign in work. For example, if your Apple ID password is "Apple" and the verification code is "123456", you would type "Apple123456" in the password field when you try to sign in.

Cheers!

Thanks Jaym, but that's exactly what I have been doing, and worked well, untill it didn't. The reply after submitting password and verification code is 'unable to sign in, Photostream is not set up for this Apple ID account, for more information go to apple.com/support/icloud'.

Whem I go to the settings for iCloud photo's the two options are grey. These are are two settings, clicking the top one 'Turn on my Photostream' brings me back to the login screen, the second let's me toggle between 'Turn on/of Photo sharing' (which is an odd question, does turn on mean it's off or on?).

Model no MC572LLA/A, software 6.2.1

I've tried a restore, but that failed too.

Thanks!

Hi Ryane,

Sorry, I'm not so sure what you got. I know Photostream shut down, I've been using iCloud photo's for a long time already. Although not on this device, as far as I remember. My problem is not that photo's doesn't work anymore, but that I can't log in to iCloud at all, which makes it impossible to use iTunes Match (which worked well on this device for a long time). The System minimum requirements say nothing about iTunes Match and older Apple TV's (that will not work with tvOS17), but it is obvious that you need iCloud for it. iTunes Match works (still?) fine on all my other devices, and I love it. The support page you mention about shutting down Photostream is not very clear about implications for other apps, but no longer being able to use iCloud at all can hardly be intended.

Anyhow, getting support is what I'm trying to do here.

Thanks.
