MacBook Pro M1 Pro issue with dual display after updating to macOS Sequoia 15.1

Having a similar issue on my MacBook M2 Max. I have 3 x external monitors, 1 x running on HDMI cable & 2 x running on USB-C to HDMI cables. The monitor running on the HDMI port has zero issues, the 2 running off the USB-C ports will turn on for a few seconds, I can see my desktops than both go black within a few seconds. I've tried everything and still have the same issues. Very frustrating.

I have experienced similar problems as others here after upgrading to macOS Sequoia 15.1. My configuration: a MacBook Pro (M3, 16") connected to two monitors via an Anker 778 Thunderbolt Docking Station (version 1.2.7). The monitor connected via USB-C to DisplayPort regularly goes black for 2-3 seconds every few minutes, while the monitor connected via HDMI works perfectly.

Before updating to macOS 15.1, I had no problems with version 14.7.1. I have already taken several steps, including changing cables, restarting and checking the connection configuration, but to no avail.

It seems that this is a software issue that hopefully Apple will fix soon. Has anyone found a permanent solution yet or any news on a possible fix?

2020 MacBook Pro M1, connected directly to AOC monitor via the USB-C/USB-C.

Has been working perfectly for the past year, but immediately after update to Sequoia 15.1, my external goes black for a few seconds intermittently. Extremely annoying.

Tried most of the common solutions offered online (check cables, try in safe mode, try new user account) but alas. Then connected via HDMI with a dock and no more issues. So seems like a software issue to me.

I hope Apple fixes this soon, because I liked that the single cable USB-C/USB-C setup also charged the MacBook.

I’m having the same issue with my MacBook Air M1. I connected a widescreen LG monitor using a Thunderbolt cable, and it’s frustrating af.

Had the same issue after the update to Seqoia 15.1, when connected to the monitor using USB-C.

When I use HDMI (with adapter Thunderbolt - HDMI, my MacBook only has two Thunderbolt ports) the monitor is again working fine.

Should be fixed by Apple, I think.

Having the same issue with the new update and has happened twice while typing this reply - smh. Tried the suggestions found here and other websites with no avail. The only temporary work around I found is the prevent my MacBook Air M1 to go into sleep mode, which is not ideal. My external monitor will still go black, but will not require me to enter my password to get back in to my laptop every time.

Apple really needs to put out a patch or update to fix this screw up.

If anyone is interested, here is what I found to keep your machine from entering sleep mode:

If for some reason your display stops sending power to your MacBook Air and the MacBook is in clamshell it will automatically sleep. If you want to experiment to see if this is happening you can use a command line pmset command to force your MacBook to stay wake in battery clamshell.

sudo pmset disablesleep 1

To set it back to normal

sudo pmset disablesleep 0

Obviously if you use a standard charger that would also be a good test.

Having said all this, I’ve never heard of a case where a display power delivery stopped sending power. That would be strange since even a sleeping portable needs to be charged.

Similar problem with MacBook Pro 15-inch 2018. Rebooted after the upgrade to Sequoia 15.1 and the external LG 24-inch monitor purchased from Apple went black. Spinning beach ball when attempting to open Outlook (Mac version) and System Settings would also freeze.

I have 4 USB-C ports (two on each side of the MacBook). I was informed that the two USB-C ports closest to the rear of the keyboard were to be used to power external devices. That seems to have reversed. I resolved the issued by plugging the external monitor into one of the ports nearer the front of the keyboard, and it seems to be working without issues (at least for the past 20 minutes). I will update if the problem returns.

I have the exact same issue. Also with the Anker dock and with an LG external display that is connected via USB-C to HDMI. Turns off every few minutes and the issue came up right after the update to 15.1.

I also changed cables, reinstalled the dock firmware, connected the display directly to Mac, and the issue still persists... Does Apple Watch these forums, or do we need to report this somehow?

this is a real issue, Not fun. I purchased a MacBook for 4K € and each and every update of the OS is Like playing russian Roulette.

Reverted to 15.01 and everything works again. But really, this is Not what I expect from a Premium Brand.

when will there be a fix for this widespread issue?

Glad to see that i'm not the only with this issue. I hope that Apple fix it ASAP, because it's so annoying!!!

Experiencing the same trouble here in MacBook Pro M1 Pro since 15.1. A 32'' 4K connected by HDMI with no issues and a 27'' connected by HDMI to USB-C adapter turning off and then turning on every few seconds. I am also noticing that the HDMI connector from the adapter is very hot, so I expect that no hardware troubles could happen.

Also having issues similar to the original poster since 15.0.1 to 15.1 upgrade on a 2020 M1 MacBook Air. Using a Dell 27" external display. My M4 Pro MacBook Pro does not appear to have the same issue (also on 15.1). Both difficulties getting it to send output via USBC to the monitor (monitor detects no signal) and the random external screen going black during use (intermittently).

Updated to 15.2 Beta 3 and problem persist.

Used Amphetamine but still no solution.
