Confirm on device

I’m trying to purchase a show when I click on confirm on device i get the notification I click on the notification then it says payment not complete immediately on the tv. I don’t get taken to the confirm payment on iPhone screen this is happening with both Apple TVs. But if I use confirm with password it works so it’s not the card.

I had this issue as well.

I had to turn off “screen time” in order to confirm AppleTV purchases with iPhone (or Apple Watch).


I would get a notification. Sometimes I could get as far as confirming on the phone before failure, sometimes just tapping the notification would fail, and sometimes immediate fail 🤷‍♂️


I had turned on screen time in order to prevent someone stealing my phone from logging me out or changing my password.


It seems like a bug to me that I need to give up that security in order to confirm purchases with my phone.

Thanks for the additional information.

Let's check to see if perhaps a restriction was enabled on Apple TV that would prevent you from making the purchase on Apple TV.


  1. "Open Settings  on Apple TV.
  2. Go to General > Restrictions make sure Restrictions is turned off and turn on In-App Purchases.

To learn more about Restrictions, see Restrict access to content on Apple TV."

We agree, that is strange behavior considering your same saved payment method works when using the 'confirm with password' option. Let's rule out some other possible causes, along with confirming more details to better understand what's happening:


  1. When did this first start to occur?
  2. If you've also tried purchasing a second show, does the same issue occur?
  3. You mentioned this occurs on on two different Apple TV devices, but we were confused about what you mentioned regarding trying to purchase the show on your iPhone. Since it shows 'payment not complete' on your Apple TV devices, what exactly occurs when you try purchasing a show on your iPhone through the Apple TV app?
  4. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone and Restart Apple TV
  5. If you have a compatible iPhone model, the latest version is iOS 16.2. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.

i had not bought a movie or show in a while. So for me this started in January.

i tried buying another show and yes same thing happened

when I try to buy it through the tv it ask me confirm with your phone and that is where I get the error. If I go to the iTunes app on the phone and go to the show and select the episode to buy that works like normal with no issues.

my phone and Apple TVs have been restarted many times due to issues with the remote disconnecting on the new Apple TV. Softwear is up to date on all devices

and it’s still not working.
